Anantnag, 26 April – Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday announced a financial grant of Rs 5 lakh to the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who lost his life while attempting to save tourists during a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Shiv Sena workers, along with Border Authorities, visited Shah’s family and handed over the compensation. Local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Syed Rafiq Shah was present during the meeting. During the conversation, Syed’s brother narrated the events leading up to the attack and commended his late sibling’s courage in confronting the assailants.

Mr. Shinde, who interacted with the family through video-conferencing, conveyed his condolences and assured them of further support from the Maharashtra government.

Shah, a horseman by profession, earned his livelihood by offering rides to tourists in the popular hill town. According to initial reports, when terrorists opened fire, Shah attempted to protect a tourist by confronting an attacker and trying to seize a weapon. He was fatally shot during the struggle.

The attack left several tourists from Maharashtra stranded in the region. In response, the state government coordinated special evacuation flights to bring the stranded tourists safely back home.

Security forces have intensified operations in Pahalgam and surrounding areas following the attack. An investigation is ongoing.
