SRINAGAR – Under mounting international pressure, The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has denied any involvement in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, calling a previous online claim of responsibility a result of cyber intrusion, The Hindu reported on Saturday.
In a statement circulated on social media platforms, a TRF spokesperson said, “We unequivocally deny any involvement in the Pahalgam incident. Any attribution of this act to TRF is false, hasty, and part of an orchestrated campaign to malign the Kashmiri resistance.”
Following the April 24 attack, an earlier message from TRF-linked accounts had claimed responsibility, citing retaliation against the issuance of domicile certificates to non-local residents in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the group has now disowned that message, alleging that it was posted without authorization.
“Shortly after the attack in Pahalgam, a brief and unauthorized message was posted from one of our digital platforms,” the TRF said. “After an internal audit, we have reason to believe it was the result of a coordinated cyber intrusion, a familiar tactic in the Indian state’s digital warfare arsenal.”
The group added that it is conducting a full internal investigation and claimed early signs point to Indian cyber-intelligence operatives being behind the alleged breach.
Local police have neither confirmed nor refuted the authenticity of TRF’s latest statement, and investigations into the Pahalgam massacre remain ongoing.
The attack, which targeted a public gathering in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam, drew sharp condemnation globally, with many governments calling for swift justice and accountability.
