Kottakkal – A 32-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after being struck by a speeding car while walking with her child in the Swagatamaad area of Kottakkal, located in Kerala’s Mallapuram district, officials and eyewitnesses said on Saturday.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. as the victim, identified as Badariya, was escorting her son Emir Muhammad to a local Anganwadi in Palathara. CCTV footage circulating online shows the white vehicle veering off the road and hitting the pair from behind, violently throwing the woman several feet forward.
Remarkably, the child escaped without injury and was seen in the footage running toward his mother, attempting to wake her up in the aftermath of the crash.
Badariya suffered facial and skeletal injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit at Kottakkal MIMS Hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed late Saturday that her condition had stabilized and she had been moved to a general ward.
The car involved in the crash is registered to residents of Kallayi, local police said. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, though authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause.
Police have launched a formal inquiry into the incident.
