SRINAGAR, May 2 (The Chenab Times) – Maulana Mubarak Mubarki, a renowned Islamic scholar, preacher, and President of Bazm-e-Tawheed, passed away on Friday in Srinagar, leaving behind a legacy of religious leadership, humility, and community service. He also served as the Khateeb (preacher) of the historic Bazar Masjid in the city.
Widely respected across the Kashmir Valley, Maulana Mubarki was known for his profound wisdom, modesty, and unwavering commitment to Islamic teachings. Over the decades, his sermons and guidance deeply influenced countless followers, uniting communities around faith and moral values.
His funeral held in two parts, a family member said. The first ceremony was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at his residence in Sanat Nagar, followed by the second at 4:00 p.m. at Bohri Kadal Chowk, near Bazar Masjid, where Mirwaiz Dr Umar Farooq is expected to lead the funeral prayers.
Mirwaiz Farooq expressed deep sorrow over the scholar’s demise, calling it a personal loss. “A few weeks ago, I visited him to inquire about his health. Despite his frailty, he recognised me and spoke with warmth and clarity. His death is a misfortune for Kashmir,” he said.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, also expressed his condolences in a message posted on social media. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. I am deeply saddened by the passing of the noted Islamic scholar and preacher, Jenab Maulana Mubarak Mubarki Sahib. Maulana Mubarki was renowned for his wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication to Islamic teachings,” he said. “My heartfelt condolences and sympathies go out to his family and followers during this difficult time.”
Maulana Mubarki’s passing marks the end of an era for many in Kashmir’s religious and social circles, who remember him not only as a scholar but also as a compassionate leader devoted to unity and service.
