PM Modi Visits Adampur Air Base After Cross-Border Ceasefire With Pakistan

ADAMPUR, MAY 13 (The Chenab Times) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian Air Force base in Adampur, Punjab, on Tuesday, days after a ceasefire agreement was reached between India and Pakistan following a sharp escalation in cross-border hostilities.

The visit comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, an Indian military offensive launched on May 7 in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month that killed 26 people. The Indian operation targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), with Indian officials claiming over 100 militants were killed.

Adampur was among the air bases that Pakistan attempted to target during retaliatory strikes on the night of May 9-10. Pakistan alleged that it launched hypersonic missiles from JF-17 fighter jets, claiming they destroyed an Indian S-400 air defence system at the base — a claim denied by Indian authorities.

In a direct rebuttal, Modi shared a photograph on social media platform X, saluting with an S-400 missile system visible in the background. “It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness,” Modi posted, praising the armed forces and expressing gratitude for their service.

The Prime Minister’s visit follows his televised address on Monday, during which he commended India’s “formidable” military for what he described as a successful and decisive operation. “Operation Sindoor is now India’s established policy in the fight against terrorism, marking a decisive shift in India’s strategic approach,” Modi said.

He also accused Pakistan of continuing to support terrorism, citing the attendance of senior Pakistani military officials at funerals of slain militants as “strong evidence” of state sponsorship.

In response to Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched missile and drone strikes targeting India’s western region, all of which were intercepted, according to Indian defence officials. India then responded with precision strikes on selected military targets within Pakistani territory.

Both countries agreed to a ceasefire last Saturday after four days of military exchanges, halting missile and drone attacks with immediate effect.

Tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours remain high, though the ceasefire is seen as a temporary de-escalation. Neither Islamabad nor New Delhi has provided detailed terms of the agreement.
