Seven MBBS students from J-K’s Doda district traced in Iran; safety measures underway amid regional conflict

Doda, June 17 — Amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel, the Doda district administration in Jammu and Kashmir has confirmed the presence of seven students from the district currently pursuing medical education in Iran. Authorities said the students have been traced and relocated to safe zones with the assistance of the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

Deputy Commissioner Doda, Harvinder Singh, said that the administration is in close contact with both the affected families and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). “Based on the information we have gathered so far, seven students from district Doda are pursuing MBBS in Iran. Their locations have been traced, and the Indian Embassy is working actively to ensure their safety,” Mr. Singh said. “I personally spoke to one of the parents — they are satisfied and assured,” he added.

In view of the heightened conflict in the region, the district administration has activated an Emergency Operation Centre and issued a dedicated helpline for families to report information regarding any other individuals from the region who may be in Iran. The helpline, operational from the control room in the DC office, can be reached at +91 95967 76203.

“People are advised to contact us immediately if they know of any residents who may be in Iran. So far, we have received details of seven students, and necessary arrangements are being made for their continued safety. However, there may be others, including tourists or working professionals, whose information has not yet reached us,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

To streamline the collection of data, a standard information format and structured Excel form have been disseminated through official and public platforms. The administration is urging families to fill in and return the form with accurate details to facilitate coordination with the MEA and Embassy officials.

“The district administration remains in regular touch with the families. Our Emergency Operation Centre is on alert and prepared to respond to any updates. The Indian Embassy is fully cooperating, and together we are ensuring that all citizens are accounted for and secure,” Mr. Singh noted.

Officials reiterated that the situation is being closely monitored and that proactive steps are being taken to assist any Indian nationals in the affected region. “This message goes out to all Indians in conflict zones: our embassies are working round-the-clock to ensure your safety. If you face any problem, reach out to your local administration. We are committed to ensuring that every citizen returns home safely,” the Deputy Commissioner added.

The Iranian conflict, which has escalated in recent weeks due to geopolitical hostilities with Israel, has raised concerns over the safety of Indian nationals residing or studying in the region. The Government of India continues to coordinate with its diplomatic missions to safeguard the interests of its citizens abroad.
