Kishtwar, Aug 10 — Security forces have engaged in a gunfight with two suspected Pakistani militants in the Dool area on the Kishtwar–Paddar road, police said Sunday morning. The operation was launched after specific intelligence inputs about militant presence.
The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed that troops made contact with the terrorists in the early hours, triggering an exchange of fire. The encounter comes amid heightened security operations in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day.
On Saturday, police raided 26 houses linked to militants and overground workers in Kishtwar, including the residence of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Mohammad Amin Bhat alias Jehangir Saroori.
The incident follows an ongoing major operation in Kulgam, where two soldiers and one millitant have been killed since August 1.
