NOIDA, August 25 — A 28-year-old woman, Nikki Bhati, was allegedly set on fire by her husband, Vipin Bhati, in Noida on August 21, following an argument over her desire to reopen a beauty parlour, police said.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the incident occurred in the Kasna area after a dispute between Nikki and Vipin escalated. Around 3:30 p.m., Nikki expressed her intent to reopen a beauty parlour with her sister, Kanchan Bhati, despite Vipin’s objections. “Vipin told Nikki that posting reels and running a parlour were ‘not allowed’ in his family,” said Kasna station house officer Dharmendra Shukla, as reported by Hindustan Times. The disagreement turned violent, with Vipin allegedly assaulting Nikki before setting her on fire.
Nikki’s brother, Rohit Gurjar, was informed by Kanchan around 5:30 p.m. that Nikki had been burned alive by Vipin. “Kanchan and her in-laws rushed Nikki from hospital to hospital, but Vipin fled the scene,” Gurjar said. Nikki succumbed to her injuries.
Nikki and Kanchan, married to brothers Vipin and Rohit Bhati in December 2016, ran a beauty parlour promoted through social media accounts, including an Instagram handle, ‘Makeover by Kanchan,’ with 54,500 followers. Nikki’s family alleged she faced dowry demands of ₹35 lakh from her in-laws since 2018, though police have not confirmed dowry as a motive in their statements.
Police arrested Vipin Bhati on Saturday after a chase, and he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. His mother, Daya Bhati, was arrested on Sunday, and his brother, Rohit Bhati, was detained on Monday. During questioning, Vipin showed no remorse, reportedly saying, “I haven’t killed her. She died on her own. Husband and wife often have fights, it is very common,” according to Hindustan Times.
The Chenab Times learned that the investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the circumstances leading to Nikki’s death.
