Kishtwar, September 4 — Five workers sustained injuries in a landslide that struck the Ratle Hydroelectric Project site in Drabshalla area of Kishtwar district on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 7.30 a.m. when the base of a toilet complex at the site collapsed, triggering a slide.
According to reports gathered by The Chenab Times, the injured workers were employed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), the firm executing the project. Those injured include 37-year-old Sandeep Gogoi, son of Kankeshawar Gogoi from Lakhimpur in Assam; Govind Rai, 45, son of Kokin Rai from West Bengal, who was referred to GMC Doda; Nitu Ram, 42, son of Raj Kumar from Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, also referred; Subash Chander, 37, son of Roop Lal from Kuntwara, Kishtwar; and Mohd Alam, 40, son of Bashir Ahmed from Chiralla, currently residing in Thathri, who too was referred.
BMO Thathri, Dr. Shakeel Kichloo, told The Chenab Times that all five injured were in a non-critical condition. “Out of five, three have been referred to GMC Doda for internal assessment,” he said.
The Ratle Hydroelectric Project, located on the Chenab river in Kishtwar, has witnessed several such incidents in recent years, underlining persistent safety concerns at major construction sites in the mountainous region.
