CM Omar Pays Tributes to Soldiers Who Lost Lives in Kulgam Encounter

SRINAGAR, Sept 9 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid solemn tributes on Tuesday to two soldiers who lost their lives in an ongoing encounter in Kulgam, recognizing their supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, according to details received by The Chenab Times. The tribute follows a fierce gunfight that erupted on Monday morning in the Gudder area after security forces acted on intelligence about militants movement, resulting in the deaths of two militants and injuries to three army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). Two jawans succumbed to their injuries during the operation.

In a post on X, the Office of J&K CM stated that Abdullah attended the wreath-laying ceremony for the slain soldiers at 11:36 AM IST today, September 09, 2025. “Their exemplary courage, unwavering valour, and ultimate sacrifice will be eternally remembered with deep respect and gratitude,” the post read. The Chief Minister also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, reaffirming the nation’s unwavering support and solidarity with them during this moment of profound grief. He emphasized the soldiers’ bravery as a testament to their commitment to safeguarding the region.

The encounter began when security forces, acting on specific intelligence inputs, launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Gudder area of Kulgam. The clash turned intense, with the militants engaging the forces, leading to the elimination of two militants. However, the operation resulted in injuries to three army personnel, two of whom later succumbed to their wounds despite medical efforts. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation, with further details expected as the operation concludes.
