SOPORE — Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, former chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and co-founder of the Muslim United Front, died on Wednesday evening at his residence in Botingoo, Sopore, Baramulla district, after a brief illness, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Bhat, a prominent figure in Kashmir’s separatist politics for decades, also served as president of the Muslim Conference, Jammu and Kashmir, a group banned by the Indian government.
He co-founded the Muslim United Front in 1986 and later led the APHC, a coalition of separatist groups established in 1993.
Family sources stated that details of funeral prayers will be announced later, news agency JKNS reported.
