Encounter Begins in J&K’s Kishtwar, says Army

KISHTWAR — An intense encounter between security forces and militants erupted in the remote, forested general area of Kishtwar district on Friday evening, with operations continuing into the night amid a fierce exchange of fire, according to details received by The Chenab Times.

The clash began around 8 p.m. during an intelligence-based operation by White Knight Corps, part of the Indian Army’s 16 Corps headquartered in Jammu. “In an intelligence-based operation in the general area of Kishtwar, alert troops of #WhiteKnightCorps established contact with terrorists at around 8 PM on 19 Sep 25. Exchange of fire took place. Operations are currently in progress,” the Corps stated on X.

Kishtwar, nestled in the rugged Chenab Valley of Jammu division, has witnessed sporadic militant activity in recent years, often linked to infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control and local recruitment by militant groups reportedly. The district’s dense forests and mountainous terrain provide ideal hideouts for militants, making such operations challenging but crucial for maintaining security ahead of winter when passes become snowbound.

Further updates are awaited as dawn breaks over the valley.
