The Indian government has approved a road project worth Rs 1,955.65 crore under the PMGSY-IV Batch-I, covering 751.44 kilometers with 110 roads in the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda constituency.
The project, announced by Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, aims to improve road connectivity to 178 habitations. According to details received by The Chenab Times, the initiative will strengthen rural infrastructure and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Chouhan stated, “These roads will not only strengthen the infrastructure in rural areas but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the region,” as per the official letter dated September 2025.
The minister emphasized that construction will proceed swiftly and that quality is ensured effectively to benefit the public for a long time. He also requested Dr. Jitendra Singh, MP of Udhampur-Kathua-Doda, to provide necessary guidance to the Union Territory to ensure the projects are completed on time without compromising on quality. Dr. Jitendra Singh posted this letter on X and wrote, “#Udhampur #Kathua #Doda Lok Sabha constituency: Thanks very much Respected Sh @ChouhanShivraj, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Minister of Rural Development, for liberally approving 110 road works in my parliamentary constituency at an estimated cost of around Rs 2,000 crore under PMGSY-4 Batch-1 (2025-26), with the promise of more to come. This will provide road connectivity and ease of travel to over 178 habitations. Every since PM Sh @narendramodi took over in 2014, this constituency, which had been continuously ignored for several decades by the earlier governments, has received high priority and district Udhampur has consistently ranked among the first 3 top districts in the country as far as PMGSY road projects are concerned.”
