Mumbai, September 28 — Mithun Manhas, a former Delhi captain and domestic cricket stalwart from Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley, was elected unopposed as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the Annual General Meeting on Sunday. He succeeds Roger Binny, whose term ended in August, with Rajeev Shukla having served as interim president, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Manhas, born on October 12, 1979, in the Chenab Valley, becomes the first from Jammu and Kashmir to hold the position. The election followed the dismissal of a petition challenging his nomination by the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
Other key appointments include Rajeev Shukla as vice-president, Devajit Saikia as honorary secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint secretary, and A. Raghuram Bhat as treasurer. Jaydev Niranjan Shah was elected as the sole member of the Apex Council, while Arun Singh Dhumal and M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar joined the IPL Governing Council.
Manhas played 157 first-class matches for Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of 45.96, including 27 centuries. He captained Delhi to the 2007-08 Ranji Trophy title, amassing 921 runs that season at 57.56. In the IPL, he represented Delhi Daredevils (2008-2010), Pune Warriors India (2011-2013), and Chennai Super Kings (2014).
Post-retirement in 2016, Manhas served as a batting consultant, including with Gujarat Titans, and as Director of Cricket for the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association, contributing to grassroots development. He was part of a BCCI sub-committee overseeing the association.
The new leadership aims to balance growth, performance, and innovation in Indian cricket.
