Jammu, October 5 — All government and private schools across Jammu Division will remain closed on October 6 and 7 following a weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region. According to a circular accessed by The Chenab Times, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has ordered the two-day closure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The order, issued by Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Director of School Education Jammu, stated that the decision was taken in view of the IMD’s forecast and the need to prioritise the security of the school community. “It is hereby ordered that all Government and Private Schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed on 06-10-2025 (Monday) and 07-10-2025 (Tuesday),” the directive read.
The circular further directed Deputy Commissioners and Chief Education Officers across the division to take necessary action and ensure compliance. The Information Department has also been requested to publicise the order through print and electronic media to reach all concerned institutions and parents.
The IMD has warned of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days, which could lead to waterlogging and disruption of normal life in low-lying areas. The authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the period of inclement weather.
The decision comes amid growing concerns over erratic weather patterns affecting the region, with recent spells of heavy rain causing disruptions in parts of Jammu, Doda, and Ramban districts.
