Doda, October 20 — Yawar Ayoub, a promising right-handed batsman from Jammu & Kashmir, has been confirmed to feature in the inaugural edition of the Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), a T20 cricket tournament scheduled to run from October 24 to November 7 at Bakshi Stadium here, according to details available with The Chenab Times.
The 28-year-old, who also goes by the alias Yawar Khan, brings a solid domestic pedigree to the league. He has represented Jammu & Kashmir in several national-level competitions, including the Col. C.K. Naidu Trophy during the 2019-20 season, the Inter-University Championship in 2020-21, and the Under-25 List A Trophy in the 2022-23 season. Additionally, Ayoub played a key role for the Jammu squad in the finals of the JKCA Senior Men’s One-Day Cup in 2023.
Ayoub’s recent form has further bolstered his credentials. In trials for the Under-25 One-Day Trophy held at the JKCA ground in Jammu, he aggregated 160 runs across two matches, scoring an unbeaten 79 off 65 balls in the first and 81 off 75 in the second. His performances earned him a spot in the 20-member J&K Under-25 squad, selected for the upcoming tournament in Hyderabad. The trials were overseen by a JKCA committee comprising Brigadier Anil Gupta, former India all-rounder Mithun Manhas, and the Cricket Advisory Committee.
The IHPL, organised by the Yuva Society, aims to blend emerging local talent with experienced international players. Among the marquee overseas signings announced for the league are West Indies opener Chris Gayle, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, Zimbabwe pacer Christopher Mpofu, and Australia’s Shaun Marsh. These additions are expected to elevate the competition, which features eight teams in a round-robin format leading to semi-finals and a final.
The tournament, which begins with its opening match on October 24, is poised to draw significant local interest, offering a mix of competitive cricket and opportunities for regional players to compete alongside global stars. Schedules and team compositions are expected to be finalised in the coming days.
