Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra’s wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol have publicly refuted rumors of his death, confirming the 89-year-old “He-Man” of Hindi cinema is stable and recovering at Breach Candy Hospital.
Hema Malini addressed the misinformation on her X account, criticizing media outlets for spreading unverified reports. “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy,” she wrote, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Esha Deol echoed the sentiment on Instagram, posting a family photo with her father. “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable & recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery,” she stated.
Dharmendra was admitted to the hospital on November 1 for routine check-ups related to age and breathing difficulties, initially placed under observation and later shifted to the ICU on ventilatory support, according to reports. Sunny Deol’s team issued an earlier statement confirming his stability: “Mr. Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further comments and updates will be shared as available. Kindly don’t indulge in spreading false rumours regarding his health. Request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family’s right to privacy.”
Family members, including Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and grandsons Karan and Rajveer Deol, have visited the actor, along with celebrities such as Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ameesha Patel. One of Dharmendra’s daughters, residing in the US, is en route to Mumbai.
The hoax gained traction after unconfirmed social media posts and media reports, including a condolence message from Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, which was later retracted. Hema Malini, spotted leaving the hospital, expressed hope for his recovery to reporters.
Dharmendra, known for over 300 films including Sholay and The Burning Train, remains a beloved figure in Indian cinema. No further medical updates were available as of Tuesday morning.
