J&K High Court Lists AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s Detention Plea for Final Hearing on December 18

Jammu — The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Thursday marked the habeas corpus petition filed by detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Din Malik as part-heard and scheduled the next hearing for December 18, 2025, for final arguments.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the case (HCP No. 139/2025) was heard by Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani at the Jammu wing of the court. Senior advocate Rahul Pant, assisted by advocates S.S. Ahmed, M. Apu Singh Slathia and M. Zulkarnain Chowdhary, continued arguments, asserting the grounds of detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) are illegal.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that proceedings could not conclude due to a heavy caseload. The court directed the respondents to produce the detention record on the next date.

Malik, AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president and MLA from Doda East, was detained on September 8 under PSA for allegedly disturbing public order during relief operations after heavy rains and flash floods in Doda district. He is lodged in Kathua jail and filed the petition on September 24, seeking immediate release and ₹5 crore in compensation.

Senior Additional Advocate General Monika Kohli represented the Union Territory of J&K and others. The petition was admitted on September 24, 2025, by Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, with subsequent hearings before Justices Sanjay Dhar, Rajnesh Oswal and Mohd Yousuf Wani, as per the case history.

No decision on the merits was issued today.
