77th Republic Day Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour in Doda’s Thathri

The 77th Republic Day of India was marked with enthusiasm and national pride in Thathri town of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, on January 26, 2026, highlighting the commitment to constitutional values in this remote sub-division of the Chenab Valley.

The celebrations took place at Boys High School, Thathri, where the National Tricolour was unfurled, followed by a march past involving contingents from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and students of various educational institutions.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thathri, Sheetal Sharma, JKAS, presided over the event and took the salute during the parade. In his address to the gathering, the SDM conveyed Republic Day greetings and emphasised the historical importance of the Indian Constitution, which came into force on January 26, 1950. He called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to uphold the core principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the document.

The programme featured a series of cultural performances, including patriotic songs, dances, and skits that portrayed themes of national unity, discipline, and pride. These activities engaged the audience and reinforced the spirit of togetherness.

On the occasion, meritorious students, notable achievers, and dedicated officials were honoured with felicitations. Various government departments also displayed their key achievements and highlighted ongoing welfare schemes aimed at improving public services in the region. The event drew participation from senior civil and police officers, heads of educational institutions, public representatives, and a large number of local residents.

Thathri, the headquarters of Thathri tehsil in Doda district, lies in the hilly terrain of the Chenab Valley, approximately 35 km east of Doda town. The sub-division serves as an important administrative and commercial centre for surrounding areas, where residents—referred to as Chenabi—often face challenges related to connectivity and infrastructure due to the rugged Himalayan foothills.

The celebrations concluded with a formal vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of prizes to participants and refreshments for attendees. The event reflected the broader national observance of the 77th Republic Day, which this year carried forward the emphasis on constitutional ideals amid India’s continued journey as a sovereign republic.
