Doda’s Asifa Anjum Secures Gold Medal in BA Fazila Honours at Kashmir University Convocation

Barri Marmat resident emerges as topper from District Doda with 94.1 per cent marks in final year examinations

A student from the Chenab Valley has brought pride to District Doda by topping her programme at the University of Kashmir and receiving a gold medal during the institution’s convocation ceremony.

Asifa Anjum, daughter of Abdul Qayoom and Tahira Begum from Barri in Marmat tehsil of Doda district, secured 94.1 per cent marks in BA Fazila (Honours) final year examinations for the 2024–25 session. She became the first student from District Doda to achieve the top position in this programme.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Asifa Anjum was awarded the gold medal at the 21st convocation of the University of Kashmir held in Srinagar. The medal was conferred in the presence of Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan, who was the chief guest, along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other dignitaries including the Education Minister of the Union Territory.

The convocation, held on February 26, 2026, saw meritorious students from various postgraduate and undergraduate programmes receive gold and silver medals. University officials noted a significant presence of women among the medal recipients, with many gold medals awarded to female students across disciplines.

Asifa Anjum completed her education at Jamia Tul Banat SRG, where she was known for her dedication and consistent performance. Her parents, respected members of the local community in Marmat, provided unwavering support and motivation throughout her academic journey in the remote area of the Chenab Valley.

Speaking with The Chenab Times, Asifa Anjum expressed humility about her achievement and credited her success primarily to her parents. She said their sacrifices, hard work, and constant encouragement were the real contributors to her accomplishment. She also thanked Almighty Allah for the success and encouraged young girls in the region to pursue education with full dedication and determination.

Asifa emphasised that through sustained effort and focus on studies, young women can bring honour not only to their families but also to their localities and the wider district. Her performance has inspired residents of Marmat and District Doda, highlighting the potential for academic excellence from underserved areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
