A drone struck Kuwait International Airport on Saturday, inflicting minor injuries on several airport employees and causing limited material damage to the passenger terminal.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions following reported strikes by the United States and Israel on targets in Iran, prompting Iranian retaliation across the Gulf region. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Kuwait confirmed that a drone targeted the facility, specifically affecting Terminal 1, the main passenger building.
GACA spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that authorities immediately activated approved emergency procedures. The site was promptly secured, and the incident was managed effectively. Assessment, treatment of the injured, repair work, and operational reorganization are currently underway, all conducted in accordance with the highest safety standards.
Al-Rajhi emphasized that the situation remains fully under control by the relevant Kuwaiti authorities. He stressed that the safety and security of passengers, airport staff, and all personnel at the facility are the top priority. The authority indicated it would provide further updates to the media as developments occur.
The attack forms part of a broader wave of retaliatory actions attributed to Iran, which has reportedly targeted U.S. military assets and interests in several Gulf countries hosting American bases, including Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and others. Kuwait, home to significant U.S. military presence such as elements of U.S. Army Central, has been affected by these escalations.
In response to the incident and the surrounding security environment, Kuwait Airways announced the temporary suspension of all inbound and outbound flights at the airport to prioritize safety amid ongoing aerial threats in the region. Kuwaiti officials, including the Cabinet, have condemned what they described as aggressive actions, reserving the right to defend national sovereignty.
The drone strike caused no reported fatalities and appears to have been limited in scope, with damage confined primarily to non-critical areas of the terminal building. Emergency services responded swiftly, ensuring medical care for those lightly injured and initiating structural evaluations to restore normal operations as soon as conditions permit.
