Jammu, March 29: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has stated that efforts are underway to elevate the Jammu Marathon into an annual event, anticipating significant benefits for the region’s tourism sector. The Jammu and Kashmir administration, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has worked to enhance the marathon’s scale and impact.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the concept for the Jammu Marathon began taking shape in 2024, following the successful organization of the Kashmir Marathon for the past two years. While the Jammu Marathon could not be held last year due to unspecified reasons, the current administration and tourism department have reportedly made concerted efforts to develop the event further.
The Lieutenant Governor noted the participation of international representatives in the marathon. He expressed optimism that establishing the event as an annual fixture will substantially benefit tourism in the Jammu region. According to Sinha, registrations for the marathon exceeded 4,000, with an estimated turnout of over 3,000 participants. He also mentioned that approximately 90 representatives from foreign countries took part in the inaugural edition.
Sinha highlighted the transformation in sports infrastructure and event organization in Jammu and Kashmir over recent years. He remarked that organizing marathons and large-scale cricket tournaments of this magnitude was unimaginable just a few years ago. The successful realization of these long-awaited aspirations, he suggested, symbolizes the new public aspirations manifesting across the region, drawing parallels with the Tawi, Chenab, and Vitasta rivers.
