Jammu, March 30: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi possesses the capability to significantly contribute to resolving the ongoing conflict involving Iran, highlighting his extensive positive relationships with nations globally.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, speaking to reporters outside the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Abdullah commented that the Prime Minister is uniquely positioned to mediate such a situation, given India’s diplomatic connections with all key players in West Asia.
“The role that the Prime Minister can play in this is something that no one else can play because he has good relations with all these countries,” Abdullah remarked. He also voiced criticism towards US President Donald Trump’s approach to the issue.
“If Trump does such a foolish thing, knowing that no one has ruled Iran for decades, it will not be that easy,” the Chief Minister said. He advocated for an immediate cessation of hostilities, stating, “Whatever is happening should be ended here itself. A ceasefire should be declared and this war should end.”
Chief Minister Abdullah further observed that Pakistan is currently leveraging its existing relationships with both Iran and the United States. “Pakistan is taking advantage of its good relations with Iran and the US. Now they have taken it. How can we object? We want the war to stop,” he stated.
Shifting focus to domestic politics, Chief Minister Abdullah expressed his hope for a victory for the Opposition in the upcoming assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory. However, he acknowledged that the ultimate mandate rests with the electorate.
Reflecting on the campaigning efforts of his party and the BJP, he said, “Our BJP colleagues from Jammu and Kashmir are travelling to other states for campaigning, while we are sitting here. What should happen and what will happen, we will see,” referring to the potential electoral outcomes.
The Chief Minister also drew attention to the prevalence of alliance politics in the current political landscape. He pointed to the BJP’s coalition with the Asom Gana Parishad in Assam, and the rival alliances involving the BJP-AIADMK, DMK-Congress, and Left fronts in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
“We would want the Opposition to win all five elections, including Puducherry, though the final decision rests with the people,” Abdullah concluded, reiterating his desire for an opposition victory while respecting the democratic process.
