“title”: “Assam Elections: PM Modi Accuses Congress of Planning Law to Protect Infiltrators”,
“content”: “
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress party of intending to introduce a law in Assam aimed at protecting infiltrators, a move he stated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies would not permit. Addressing a public gathering in Gogamukh, located in the Dhemaji district of Assam, Modi asserted that the Congress’s objective, if elected, is to alter the state’s demographic balance by enabling infiltrators to become a permanent vote bank, thereby diminishing the majority community.
The Chenab Times has learned that Prime Minister Modi further alleged that Congress leaders have openly declared their intention to enact legislation that would shield infiltrators and expressed their support for them. He also drew a parallel between the Congress’s alleged actions and the divisive politics of the Muslim League during the country’s Partition, accusing the party of attempting to fragment India. The Prime Minister further claimed that the Congress has undermined the Constitution drafted by B.R. Ambedkar.
BJP’s Vision for Assam
In contrast to his accusations against the opposition, Prime Minister Modi articulated the BJP’s agenda for Assam should it be returned to power. He reiterated the party’s commitment to implementing the Uniform Civil Code and safeguarding the rights of tribal communities under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. According to Modi, these measures are essential to preserve Assam’s distinct identity and cultural heritage.
He characterized the BJP’s past decade in governance as a period marked by ‘seva’ (service) and ‘sushasan’ (good governance) in Assam, suggesting a new era of development and efficient administration had dawned under the party’s leadership. The Prime Minister emphasized that there is a widespread consensus that only the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) possesses the capability to undertake and complete modern infrastructure projects in the state.
Electoral Prospects
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects in Assam. He predicted that the party would achieve a “hat-trick” of victories in the upcoming elections, attributing this anticipated success to the support of the electorate. He contrasted this outlook with that of the Congress, suggesting that the latter party was heading towards a “century of defeats” in elections across the country.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come amidst the ongoing electoral campaign in Assam, where issues of citizenship, immigration, and regional identity are significant factors influencing voter sentiment. The BJP has consistently positioned itself as the protector of Assam’s cultural and demographic integrity, often highlighting concerns regarding illegal immigration.
The Congress, meanwhile, has sought to present an alternative vision, focusing on social welfare and inclusive development. However, Prime Minister Modi’s sharp critique seeks to frame the electoral choice as one between national preservation and what he described as the Congress’s agenda of appeasement and division. The election results are expected to reflect the voters’ response to these competing narratives.
