Four individuals have been apprehended by the police in Vriddhachalam, Tamil Nadu, following the seizure of approximately 5 kilograms of contraband ganja. The operation, which led to the arrests, was conducted by local law enforcement officials as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

While details surrounding the exact circumstances of the seizure remain limited due to the early stage of the investigation, sources indicate that the ganja was confiscated during a routine check or a targeted operation. The value of the seized contraband is estimated to be substantial, reflecting the quantity involved.

The arrests come amidst a broader crackdown on illicit drug trade across Tamil Nadu, with authorities reporting numerous seizures of ganja and other narcotics in various districts over the past several months. These operations highlight the persistent challenge posed by drug smuggling networks operating within and transiting through the state.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that law enforcement agencies in Tamil Nadu have been intensifying surveillance and search operations, particularly along transit routes and in known hotspots for drug peddling. This proactive approach aims to disrupt the supply chain of illegal substances and apprehend those involved in their distribution.

The Vriddhachalam seizure is one of several recent incidents that underscore the state police’s commitment to curbing the flow of drugs. Earlier this year, significant quantities of ganja have been seized in other parts of Tamil Nadu, including instances involving train routes and inter-state smuggling attempts. In March 2026, a substantial amount of ganja was seized from a train in Chennai, leading to an ongoing investigation. More recently, in May 2026, six individuals were apprehended in Namakkal district for attempting to smuggle ganja via train, with 12 kg of the substance seized.

The police have indicated that further investigations are underway to identify the source of the ganja and to ascertain the extent of the network involved in this latest Vriddhachalam operation. The focus will be on dismantling any larger distribution rings and preventing future instances of drug trafficking.

The Tamil Nadu police have consistently sought public cooperation in their anti-drug campaigns, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities related to the sale or transportation of narcotics. Such intelligence sharing has proven crucial in the success of many operations, enabling law enforcement to act preemptively and effectively against drug traffickers.
