KISHTWAR, July 11: Days after Doda MLA Mehraj Malik sought a long-term rehabilitation and post-disaster assessment for flood-affected Thathri, Rajya Sabha MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has also stepped in, urging the district administration to expedite restoration measures in the flash flood-hit town.
According to a handwritten communication addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Doda, dated July 11, 2026, the Rajya Sabha member called for immediate steps for post-disaster restoration works in Thathri town under the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) and SASCI Scheme. He also asked the district administration to consider and act upon a public resolution, a copy of which was enclosed with the communication.
The note reads: “Kindly take immediate measures/steps for post-disaster restoration works at Thathri town under PDNA/SASCI Scheme and further go through the public resolution (copy enclosed).”
The communication comes in the wake of the devastating flash floods that recently struck Thathri town, causing extensive damage to residential houses, commercial establishments, vehicles, roads, and other public infrastructure. The disaster also disrupted traffic on National Highway-244 and prompted large-scale rescue and restoration efforts by the district administration.
The latest intervention follows a separate representation by Doda MLA Mehraj Malik, who recently wrote to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking a comprehensive Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA), the declaration of severely affected areas as flood-prone wherever technically feasible, and a long-term rehabilitation and relocation plan for vulnerable families.
With both the local legislator and the Rajya Sabha MP now pressing for structured post-disaster intervention, there are growing demands for the government to move beyond immediate relief and undertake permanent restoration, mitigation, and rehabilitation measures for the flood-affected areas of Thathri and adjoining regions.
