Two people were killed and dozens of passengers were injured after a heavy boulder fell on a moving passenger bus at Ragi Nala on National Highway-244 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The bus was travelling from Kishtwar to Jammu when the incident occurred, triggering an emergency rescue operation.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the accident took place when a large rock dislodged from the hillside and struck the bus while it was passing through the Ragi Nala stretch of the highway. Initial information indicates that two passengers died in the incident, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity. Rescue and evacuation efforts were underway at the time of filing this report.
Police, civil administration officials, rescue personnel and local volunteers reached the spot soon after the accident. The injured were shifted to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment, while authorities continued efforts to ensure that all passengers were safely evacuated from the damaged vehicle.
The Ragi Nala stretch of NH-244 is prone to landslides and falling rocks, particularly during periods of rainfall and unstable weather.
