In response to elevated security concerns, the Amritsar Rural Police conducted an intensive checking operation across the district on Monday, establishing 14 red alert checkpoints at strategic locations.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the special drive, aimed at bolstering surveillance and ensuring prompt detection of any suspicious activity, was carried out between 2 pm and 4 pm. The operation was conducted under the directives of Border Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harmanbir Singh Gill and Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwalpreet Singh.
The checkpoints were strategically positioned at key entry and exit points of the district, bridges, bypasses, and roads connecting to border areas, reflecting the region’s sensitivity. Each checkpoint was supervised by police officers holding Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) ranks, with personnel tasked with thoroughly inspecting vehicles and individuals.
The police teams maintained a close watch on all vehicles entering and leaving the district. The identified locations for the checkpoints included Pul Drain, Mattewal; T-point Rajewala on the New Bypass, Tarn Taran, under the Chattiwind police station; T-point Awan near Ramdas Main Road in Ajnala; Attalgarh under the Gharinda police station; Mour Umranangal under the Beas police station; Pul Nehar at Arjan Manga; T-point Nagiana Sahib near the Electricity Board office; Adda Kawe under the Lopoke police station; Pul Sua Nawa at Fatehgarh on Churian Road under the Jhander police station; Pul Nehar at Gosal Zimidara; Mour Gunnowal under the Jandiala police station; T-point Hoshiar Nagar under the Gharinda police station; Adda Chappa Ram Singh; and Valmiki Chowk in Jandiala.
Senior police officials emphasized that the deployment was crucial for strengthening the overall surveillance network and ensuring that any untoward incidents could be prevented. The checking was deemed particularly significant due to the Amritsar rural belt’s proximity to the international border and its role as a gateway to numerous border villages.
Gazetted officers overseeing the checkpoints engaged with the deployed personnel and meticulously monitored the checking procedures. Police officials indicated that such comprehensive security measures are instrumental in maintaining law and order and enhancing the overall safety and security of the rural areas within the district.
