MLA Doda Writes to Education Minister, Seeks Immediate Start of GDC Thathri Construction

Doda, Aug 21: Amid the ongoing hunger strike demanding the construction of the Government Degree College (GDC) Thathri campus, Doda MLA Mehraj Malik has written to the Education Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, urging immediate intervention for the commencement of the long-pending project.

In an official communication dated August 21, 2026, addressed to the Education Minister, the MLA highlighted the prolonged delay in the construction of the college building and sought urgent action from the government. He stated that while the college was sanctioned in 2010 and classes began in 2011, construction of the permanent campus has yet to commence despite the passage of nearly 16 years.

The MLA pointed out that students are presently attending classes in an old three-room building, which he described as inadequate and unsuitable for a degree college. He noted that the lack of proper infrastructure has created difficulties for both students and faculty members.

Referring to the ongoing public agitation, Mehraj Malik informed the minister that the delay has led to growing public concern and that a hunger strike is currently underway in Thathri demanding the immediate start of construction work. He urged the government to complete all pending formalities and direct the concerned authorities to begin work on the college campus without further delay.

“The students and people of Thathri have waited for nearly 16 years. They deserve proper educational infrastructure and a permanent college building,” the MLA stated in his letter.

The development comes as the indefinite hunger strike for the construction of the GDC Thathri campus entered its second day, with protesters continuing to press for immediate action on one of the region’s longest-pending educational infrastructure demands.
