Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Saturday for a two-day official visit aimed at bolstering the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan. The visit is the first leg of a two-nation tour that will also include the Kyrgyz Republic.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival at the airport. This marks Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan.
During his stay in Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in key sectors including trade, investment, digital connectivity, defence, and energy. Prime Minister Modi expressed his anticipation for these discussions, stating his aim to further deepen cooperation and advance shared visions for ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Yangi Uzbekistan’.
The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnerships across Central Asia and fostering deeper civilizational connections with the region. Prime Minister Modi also plans to visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. These visits are intended as tributes to the close cultural and people-to-people ties that bind India and Uzbekistan.
Following his engagements in Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic. There, he is slated to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. He received the invitation to attend the summit from President Sadyr Zhaparov of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The SCO Summit provides a significant platform for leaders of member states to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and other pressing issues. Prime Minister Modi’s participation is expected to reinforce India’s role in regional diplomacy and its engagement with Central Asian nations.
The Prime Minister’s engagements in both Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic are designed to reinforce India’s diplomatic outreach in Central Asia, a region of significant strategic and economic importance. The discussions are anticipated to yield outcomes that strengthen bilateral relations and promote mutual growth and stability.
