Versant Media Group exceeded third-quarter earnings expectations, reporting an earnings per share of $0.34 against analyst estimates. The company’s revenue for the quarter reached $1.59 billion, surpassing the consensus forecast of $1.57 billion. This financial performance comes as Versant continues to navigate industry shifts, with growth in its digital platforms partially offsetting declines in traditional cable network revenues.
MS NOW Membership Expands to Connected TVs
In a significant strategic move, Versant has expanded the direct-to-consumer experience for its MS NOW Membership service to major connected TV platforms. As of November 2, users can access MS NOW’s 24/7 live linear feed and on-demand programming through devices such as Roku, Apple TV, Samsung, Google TV, and Amazon Fire TV. This expansion allows viewers to watch the network’s content without a traditional cable subscription for the first time.
The rollout of MS NOW Membership on connected TV platforms coincides with the lead-up to the U.S. midterm elections, aiming to broaden the network’s reach. The service, priced at $7.99 per month or $79.99 annually, offers new subscribers a 30% discount on their first year through November 17. Future enhancements planned for the first quarter of 2027 include member-exclusive series, live Q&A sessions with journalists, and other special events.
Versant reports that MS NOW has a substantial audience, reaching over 38 million Americans across its platforms and garnering more than 4.5 billion views on YouTube and TikTok combined this year. The network itself has seen strong viewership, ranking as the second-most-watched cable network during the third quarter and demonstrating double-digit audience growth in key demographics.
Versant’s Diversified Business Strategy
The company’s overall strategy emphasizes growth across four core markets: business news and personal finance, political news and opinion, golf and athletics participation, and sports and genre entertainment. While cable network revenues have faced pressure due to ongoing subscriber churn, Versant’s Platforms business, which includes digital assets like Fandango, has shown robust growth. Fandango, in particular, has benefited from increased movie ticket sales and home entertainment purchases, alongside revenue from its cinema operating platform.
Versant’s portfolio encompasses a range of well-known networks and digital brands, including CNBC, USA Network, Golf Channel, and Fandango. The company continues to expand its digital footprint, including the launch of free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels, as it aims to deepen consumer relationships and create new monetization opportunities beyond traditional cable distribution.
