Thathri, May 14 — In a move to promote regional languages and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, PM Shree Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Thathri town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Wednesday organised a special programme featuring the Bhadarwahi Qaida — a linguistic guide aimed at preserving and teaching local dialects.
The event was sponsored by Rishi Sharma, producer and director of the New Series (Himachal Pradesh and Jammu), in collaboration with Bhalla Bhadarwah-based videographer Ajay Kumar. ICT support was managed by Lecturer Nasir Amin and teacher Nadeem Alam. Sanjeet Kumar, a teacher at the school, took the lead in initiating and coordinating the programme.
The highlight of the event was a live demonstration of the Bhadarwahi Qaida on a smart board by its author Rajinder Singh, Master at the school. Addressing students and staff, Singh said the Qaida makes it easier to write in 16 dialects spoken across Jammu and Kashmir and over four dialects of Himachal Pradesh.
The programme was held under the supervision of Principal Angrez Singh, who keenly observed the proceedings. In his concluding remarks, the principal congratulated the author and recommended the adoption of the Bhadarwahi Qaida in schools, noting the NEP 2020’s emphasis on incorporating local languages into the academic framework.
“The Bhadarwahi Qaida was published as an e-book on March 1, 2025, by Anzer Ayoob, founder of The Chenab Times, under ISBN 978-81-971274-2-7,” Rajinder Singh said.
Commenting on the initiative, Anzer Ayoob — who also serves as President of the Chenab Times Foundation, a charitable trust focused on art, culture, and addressing public grievances — said, “Preserving linguistic diversity is essential to safeguarding our cultural identity. The Bhadarwahi Qaida is a step toward empowering communities to reconnect with their roots through education. We hope more institutions adopt such efforts under the progressive framework of NEP 2020.”
The event underscored growing efforts to preserve linguistic diversity and integrate cultural heritage into mainstream education.
