Three foreign nationals from Thailand have been deported from India after being found to be residing in the country beyond the validity of their visas. The action followed a joint inspection by Amritsar police and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) aimed at ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deportation operation was conducted after authorities inspected a residential building located in Partap Nagar on GT Road. During the inspection, five foreign nationals were discovered to be residing at the premises. A subsequent verification of their travel documents revealed that three of the individuals had overstayed their visas, thereby contravening immigration laws.
Following the completion of necessary legal procedures, the three Thai nationals were deported to their home country. The investigation also uncovered that the owner of the residential property had failed to register the accommodation on the mandatory Form-III portal, which is required for accommodating foreign nationals. Furthermore, the owner allegedly did not submit the prescribed details of their foreign guests to the relevant authorities, indicating a breach of accommodation regulations for foreign visitors.
In response to these violations, an FIR was registered by the police at the B-Division police station. The case has been filed under Section 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, naming the individual who provided accommodation to the foreign nationals. This legal action underscores the authorities’ commitment to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring accountability among those providing lodging to non-citizens.
Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh stated that the joint operation was specifically organized to guarantee adherence to immigration rules and to effectively monitor the presence of foreign nationals within the city. He emphasized the importance of such coordinated efforts in maintaining national security and regulatory compliance.
The Amritsar police and the FRRO have issued a strong advisory to all individuals and establishments involved in providing accommodation to foreign nationals. This includes hotel owners, guest house operators, paying guest (PG) accommodation providers, homestay operators, and private property owners. The advisory reiterates the critical importance of strictly complying with the mandatory registration and reporting requirements under the Form-III portal when accommodating any foreign national. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in legal action, including FIRs and deportation, as demonstrated in this recent case.
