South Korean singer and rapper Jennie has released her new single, “Someone to Hold,” serving as the lead track for the soundtrack of Netflix’s upcoming animated film “Steps.” The song, available globally on November 6, 2026, was made available ahead of the film’s premiere on November 20.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, “Someone to Hold” was co-written by Jennie alongside Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels, and Jason Gill, with Tranter also producing the track. Described as a “pure danceable joy” inspired by vintage dance-pop, the song embodies the theme of sisterhood among the film’s characters, Lilith, Cinderella, and Margot, aiming to infuse the movie with energy and positivity.
This marks Jennie’s first musical contribution to an animated film. The track has already garnered a nomination for Best Song – Animated Film at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. “I am so excited to join the Steps family and it was really fun making my first song for an animated film!” Jennie stated in a press release shared by Netflix. She added, “I love how much heart and personality the characters have, and I’m so happy I got to be a little part of their world. I hope you enjoy Steps and ‘Someone to Hold’ as much as I do and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it!”
The film’s directors, Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, highlighted that the song captures the sisters’ bond and accompanies a significant emotional moment in the narrative.
Jennie, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group BLACKPINK, has also established a successful solo career. She has previously released successful singles such as “Solo” and “You & Me,” and her debut studio album “Ruby” achieved significant international success. She established her own label, Odd Atelier, and is signed with Columbia Records.
