Top-Ranking LeT/HM Commanders Among Eight Charged Under UAPA Act in NIA Court, Says Doda Police

Doda Police has asserted that it has officially filed a charge sheet under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against eight prominent militants, including high-ranking commanders from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). These individuals are currently believed to be operating from Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK/POK). The charge sheet has been submitted in the Designated Fast Track National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in Doda as part of the ongoing efforts to combat militancy in the region.

According to statements from Doda Police, this development is a crucial move in their campaign to dismantle militant networks and disrupt their attempts to sustain militancy in Doda district and other parts of Jammu Province. The eight individuals named in the charge sheet are facing grave charges under U/S 299 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The specific cases registered against these alleged militants are as follows:

• FIR No. 07/2021 under UAPA Act, registered at Police Station Thathri, focuses on LeT’s top-ranking militant, Mohd Amin, alias Khubaib, who is believed to be presently operating from PAK.
• FIR No. 09/2021 under UAPA Act, filed at Police Station Bhaderwah, targets (1) the top-ranking HM militant, Mohd Hussain Khateeb, son of Abdul Hai Khateeb, and (2) HM militant Zakir Hussain, son of Abdul Rashid, both residents of Bhaderwah.
• FIR No. 14/2021 under UAPA Act, lodged at PS Doda, is against (1) LeT militant Abdul Hai, also known as Tahir Bilal, and (2) the high-ranking HM militant Irshad Ahmed Itoo, also known as Idress. Both individuals are residents of Doda.
• FIR No. 06/2021 under UAPA Act, registered at PS Gandoh, targets HM militants Atta Mohd, known as Adil Mubashir, and Mohd Shafi, known as Nadeem, along with HM militant Majid Hussain, also known as Abu Jihad. They hail from Tanta Gandoh, Trankal, and Manoie Gandoh, respectively.

The charges against these militants, as per Doda Police, revolve around their alleged involvement in running a terror module within the Doda district, acting on the instructions of their Pakistan-based mentors. Doda Police emphasizes that they conducted thorough investigations, collecting substantial evidence against these individuals before filing the charge sheet under U/S 299 CrPC in the Fast Track NIA Court Doda.

Local authorities, according to Doda Police statements, remain vigilant in countering attempts by these militants to recruit local youth into their fold for carrying out subversive activities. Doda Police also underline their commitment to identifying and apprehending sympathizers, supporters, and overground workers associated with the militants to eradicate any remnants of militancy in the district.
