Gold Medalist in Taekwondo, Danish Manzoor, is stepping upwards towards his goals
Danish Manzoor, a Taekwondo player from Kashmir’s Baramulla district, is making the motherland proud with his achievements. Struggling for exposure in his field, he aims for the Olympics. He has won 15 gold medals in the last five years, but the lack of professional support is proving to be a stumbling block for this player, who aspires to represent the country at the Olympics.
In 2011, he won his first gold medal at the North Zone Taekwondo Championship. He calls 2013 his golden era, because that year he won two gold medals, one at the Junior State Championship held at MA Stadium Jammu and another at the Open State Championship held at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex Srinagar, and one at the District-level Championship at Jhelum Stadium Baramulla. Continuing his efforts, he won one more gold at the Gulmarg Cup held at Gulmarg (Kashmir) in 2014. In the same year, he won two more golds at the Open Kashmir Taekwondo Championship held at Jhelum Stadium, Baramulla, and the Youth Service & Sports Inter Division held at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar respectively. Also, one more gold medal in the District-level Championship in 2014. In 2015, he bagged three golds in separate events viz. Junior State Taekwondo Championship, Open Kashmir Taekwondo Championship and a District-level Taekwondo Championship. He also won 2-3 golds in the Inter-District Taekwondo Tournament.
Despite having such achievements, he is struggling to get a chance in national and international competitions. But he keeps focussing on his dreams and improving day by day.
In a brief conversation with The Chenab Times, he said, “My target is not the nationals. I want to represent my country in the Olympics.”
Now, he has requested the J&K Govt to give him a better platform, so that he can achieve his dreams.
Ranote village in Kahara, a poor village depends upon agricultural activities
Ranote is a village in Kahara tehsil of district Doda. It is about 13 KMs from tehsil headquarter Kahara. This village falls under Jia panchayat and is about 60Km from district headquarter Doda.

Ranote is located on Kahara-Jai Road having population of 600 people approximately. It is the backward village and most of the people are very poor and exclusively depends upon agricultural activities.

Annual festival of Mahal Naag Mela celebrated when numbers of yatris visited the village. Having mixture of languages including Bhaderwahi, Bhalessi, Gojri, Kashmiri and Sarazi.
Flash Floods Devastate Thathri: Six Dead, Eleven Injured
In a tragic turn of events, six individuals lost their lives and eleven others sustained injuries after flash floods, triggered by a cloudburst, ravaged Thathri town early Thursday morning. The deluge inundated vast stretches along the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway, sweeping away half a dozen houses in its wake.
The catastrophic event unfolded at approximately 2:20 am, dramatically increasing the water level of the ‘nullah’ that flows adjacent to the Jamia Masjid locality. The torrent of water unleashed by the cloudburst caused widespread destruction, with six houses, two shops, and a school reported damaged.
Among the deceased were four members of a single family, highlighting the personal toll of this natural disaster. Rescue operations have been ongoing, with authorities having successfully extricated eleven people from the debris. However, many more are feared to be trapped, and the death toll is anticipated to rise as rescue efforts continue.
Anzer Ayoob, our editor of The Chenab Times and a firsthand witness to the catastrophe, provided a detailed account: “At 2:20 am, flash floods triggered by a cloudburst hit Thathri town, causing a massive surge in the level of the ‘nullah’ flowing along the Jamia Masjid locality. I was part of the rescue team and saw firsthand the devastation it caused.”
Emergency services and local authorities are on high alert, working tirelessly to assist those affected and to search for any remaining victims. The community is reeling from the devastation, with many residents left homeless and in need of urgent assistance.
