As the world celebrates International Mother Language Day, CT’s Chief Editor, Anzer Ayoob, discussed new developments and improvements in a virtual meeting with various editors on the multilingual news initiative of The Chenab Times.
In this virtual meeting, the Chief Editor reviewed the progress and engagement response of the programme and also discussed adding other local languages of the Chenab region to the program. “Our multilingual initiative in the past year got a good response, especially when we met elderly people of the Chenab region who can’t understand, speak, or understand the other languages, including J & K’s common languages, Urdu, Kashmiri, etc. They can only understand and speak the Bhaderwahi, Sarazi, and other concerned local languages,” expressed Marketing Editor, Raja Shakeel, to CE.
While various other problems faced by the anchors of present languages, including Bhaderwah and Sarazi, were described.
In the closing moments, CE Anzer Ayoob directed the Bhaderwahi and Sarazi anchors to also curate the general news reports in these languages. Also, put stress on adding other local languages of the Chenab region, including Pogli, Kishtwari, Padri, etc.
It is pertinent to mention that the day is celebrated to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism around the world. Language is not just a means of communication; it also represents a vast cultural and intellectual heritage as well.
