Watch: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Washes Feet of Tribal Man Who Was Urinated On, Offers Apology

In a gesture of empathy and solidarity, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met Dashmat Rawat, a labourer from a tribal community, who was subjected to a deplorable act of humiliation in a video that recently went viral. During the meeting at his official residence in Bhopal, Chouhan washed Rawat’s feet, expressed his apologies, and extended his support.

Expressing his distress upon watching the video, Chouhan personally apologized to Rawat, stating, “Seeing that video pained me. I apologize to you.” The Chief Minister engaged in a brief conversation with Rawat, inquiring about his job, family, and welfare schemes. Following the foot-washing ceremony, Chouhan adorned Rawat with a tilak on his forehead, garlanded him, and presented him with gifts, symbolizing their newfound friendship.

Drawing parallels to the legendary friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudama, Chouhan referred to Rawat as “Sudama” and pledged his commitment to support him. The Chief Minister also engaged in discussions on various other issues and ensured that state welfare schemes were reaching Rawat, according to news agency PTI. To further symbolize their bond, Chouhan and Rawat planted a sapling together at the Smart City Park in Bhopal.

The incident, which occurred three months ago, involved Dashmat Rawat being urinated on by the main accused, Pravesh Shukla (30), in Siddhi district. The circulation of the video sparked a political firestorm in the state, with the Congress party targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and linking Shukla to a BJP leader and Siddhi MLA Kedarnath Shukla. However, the BJP has distanced itself from the accused, asserting that he is not a party member.

Taking swift action, the Madhya Pradesh Police arrested Pravesh Shukla on Tuesday and charged him under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). In addition, a part of Shukla’s residence was demolished by the MP authorities on Wednesday, as reported by the Indian Express.

The empathetic gesture by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has garnered significant attention and appreciation, not only for his immediate response but also for the symbolism behind his actions. The incident highlights the importance of promoting dignity, respect, and inclusivity within society, especially towards marginalized communities.
