In a significant turn of events, Showkat Ahmad Rather, a Senior Lecturer in Persian at Government Higher Secondary School Wagar Khansahib Budgam, has been suspended from his position for allegedly violating Rule 22(i) of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1971. This suspension, effective as of September 13, 2023, is pending a comprehensive inquiry into Rather’s actions.
Rule 22(i) of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1971, explicitly states, “No Government employee who has a wife living shall contract another marriage without first obtaining the permission of the Government, notwithstanding that such subsequent marriage is permissible under the personal law for the time being applicable to him.”
As per the directive, Showkat Ahmad Rather has been immediately placed under suspension and will be attached to the office of the Chief Education Officer in Ganderbal for the duration of this inquiry.
To ensure a thorough and impartial investigation, Rouf Rehman (JKAS), Joint Director Education (Central), Kashmir, has been assigned the responsibility of conducting an in-depth inquiry into the conduct of the suspended Senior Lecturer.
