Srinagar: In the midst of the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and Palestine, prominent political leaders in India-administered Jammu and Kashmir have voiced their concerns, urging the international community to address the long-standing issue. Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister and leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference president and Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar, have shared their thoughts on the matter.
Mehbooba Mufti lamented the unfortunate circumstances that have brought global attention to the Israel-Palestine conflict. She emphasized the inconsistency in international reactions, stating, “Unfortunate that it takes such death & destruction for the world to awaken to the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Deafening silence is maintained year after year as innocent Palestinians are murdered & their homes destroyed. Today just because the shoe on the other foot is pinching, the so-called democracies are outraged. This selective outrage is criminal to say the least. Resolve Palestine so that peace prevails.”

Farooq Abdullah, echoing Mufti’s sentiments, criticized the United Nations for its inability to resolve the protracted Palestinian issue, as per India Today report. Abdullah, who has been serving as the Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar, expressed his sorrow over the loss of innocent lives during the conflict. He firmly stated, “War is bad in every way, as people suffer. So many innocent Israelis were killed, so many innocent Palestinians were killed. War is not a solution to any problem.” Abdullah went on to express his disappointment with the UN’s handling of the issue, saying, “The regrettable thing is that the UN has failed. The issue of Palestine has been pending for such a long time, and they are not solving it. Innocent people are getting killed.”
These statements by prominent leaders from the region reflect their concern and condemnation of the ongoing violence in the Israel-Palestine conflict. They highlight the need for urgent international intervention and a comprehensive resolution to bring an end to the suffering of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
