NARAYANPET, Aug 18 — A man’s body was transported on a pushcart to a government hospital in Kosgi municipality of Narayanpet district of Telangana after an ambulance failed to arrive, NDTV reported.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the incident occurred on Monday at Shivaji Chowk. A video circulating on social media showed two people pushing the cart with the deceased placed on it. The cart was reportedly taken from a local trader without his consent.
The unusual sight drew sharp criticism from locals, who accused authorities of insensitivity and failing to provide proper arrangements.
Narayanpet Superintendent of Police said the body was shifted to the mortuary on a pushcart “to prevent chaos.” He explained, “On Sunday, due to the one-way road and heavy market crowd, it became difficult to bring an ambulance quickly. Revenue staff and police personnel tried to stop a few vehicles but failed. To prevent further chaos, the body was shifted to the mortuary on a pushcart. A detailed inquiry is being conducted.”
The case has drawn comparisons to a 2023 incident in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, where a pregnant woman had to be carried on a cot for 20 km to reach a government hospital due to lack of transport facilities.
