Administrative reshuffle affects Motor Vehicle Inspectors across districts in Kashmir Valley and Jammu division
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the Office of the Transport Commissioner in Jammu and Kashmir has issued an order transferring six officials in the department, primarily Motor Vehicle Inspectors, with immediate effect as of January 8, 2026.
The transfers involve postings across Assistant Regional Transport Offices in districts including Kupwara, Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Poonch, and Udhampur. Waheed Ul Islam, Motor Vehicle Inspector, has been moved from ARTO Office Kupwara to ARTO Office Shopian in south Kashmir. Manzoor Ahmad Qureshi, Motor Vehicle Inspector, previously posted in Regional Transport Office Srinagar, has been transferred to ARTO Office Anantnag, also in south Kashmir district. Irfan Aziz, Motor Vehicle Inspector, attached to RTO Srinagar, now takes charge at ARTO Office Kupwara in north Kashmir.
In additional changes, Adil Bashir, Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector, shifts from ARTO Office Kupwara to ARTO Office Pulwama in south Kashmir. Mohd Kahfilwara Shah, Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector, moves from ARTO Office Poonch in Pir Panjal region of Jammu division to ARTO Office Kulgam in south Kashmir. Anil Suri, Junior Assistant, has been transferred from ARTO Office Poonch to ARTO Office Udhampur in Jammu division.
The order, numbered 04-TC of 2026 and dated January 9, 2026, states that the reshuffle is in the interest of administration and to ensure efficient functioning of the department. All concerned officials have been deemed relieved immediately and directed to report to their new places of posting without delay. Such administrative transfers are routine in government departments to optimise operations and address staffing needs in regional offices responsible for vehicle registration, licensing, enforcement, and road safety measures.
The directive has been issued with the approval of the competent authority and signed by Anju Gupta, Additional Transport Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service, currently holding the acting charge. Copies have been forwarded to relevant officials, including the Regional Transport Officers in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, concerned ARTOs in districts such as Kupwara, Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama, Poonch, Kulgam, and Udhampur, as well as ministerial departments for information and compliance.
These changes come amid ongoing efforts by the Transport Department to strengthen enforcement and service delivery across the Union Territory, particularly in districts like those in the Chenab Valley region where residents rely on efficient motor vehicle administration for daily needs. No official statements beyond the order have been released regarding the rationale for specific postings.
