SRINAGAR: A joint operation by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Rajouri district has resulted in the seizure and challaning of more than 20 e-autos for a range of violations, including operating without valid documentation and permits.
The Chenab Times has learned that the enforcement drive was conducted near the District Police Lines in Rajouri and was overseen by Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Rajesh Gupta. The operation saw the active participation of the Station House Officer (SHO), transport inspectors, sub-inspectors, and police personnel.
During the extensive checking, authorities identified and took action against e-autos found to be operating without proper driving licenses and valid route permits. The crackdown also targeted vehicles entering Rajouri from other tehsils and engaging in illegal operations, leading to their immediate seizure.
Further, several e-autos were penalized for unauthorized modifications, such as the installation of extra seating arrangements and illegal sound systems. Officials emphasized that these modifications clearly contravene established transport regulations.
According to officials, such non-compliant practices not only violate the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act but also pose significant risks to passenger safety and contribute to increased traffic congestion within urban areas. The enforcement action aims to curb these unsafe and illegal operations.
ARTO Rajesh Gupta stated that the department has been consistently receiving complaints concerning the unauthorized operation of e-autos, particularly from vehicles originating outside the local tehsils. He assured that stringent enforcement drives would continue in the upcoming days to ensure adherence to traffic rules and to facilitate smooth traffic management.
Authorities have issued a stern warning to all e-auto operators, urging them to strictly comply with transport norms. The statement indicated that any further violations would lead to severe legal consequences under the applicable laws.
