LUCKNOW, May 16, 2026 – An assistant professor at the University of Lucknow has been arrested following allegations of making obscene phone calls to a female student and offering to leak examination papers. The accused, identified as Paramjeet Singh, a professor in the Zoology Department, was taken into custody after audio clips of purported conversations went viral on social media.

The allegations suggest that Singh made objectionable calls to a BSc final-year student on the nights of May 14 and 15, pressuring her to meet him before her examination. In the viral audio clips, Singh is allegedly heard telling the student, “Darling, your paper has been leaked. Come from your home before the exam, and we will give you the paper here.” The student reportedly conveyed her distress to the university administration.

Following the emergence of the audio clips, the University of Lucknow initiated an internal inquiry and lodged a complaint at the Hasanganj police station. The university administration has stated that it adheres to a “zero tolerance” policy regarding any actions that could compromise the institution’s dignity and academic environment. The Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of the university has completed its inquiry, considering the facts presented by both parties, and its report is scheduled to be presented at an emergency meeting of the Executive Council.

The Controller of Examinations at the university filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police, including three audio recordings of alleged conversations between the assistant professor and the student. The complaint highlighted the matter as a serious breach of examination confidentiality and a violation of the student’s dignity. The FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Ordinance, 2024, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Paramjeet Singh, who has been serving as an assistant professor since June 2022, has denied the allegations. He claims to have been falsely implicated due to internal politics within the university and among students. He reiterated his rejection of the claims before his arrest, stating he was being targeted.

Student organizations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), have protested on campus, demanding the immediate dismissal and arrest of the accused professor. The ABVP has called for strict action under laws pertaining to examination integrity and sexual harassment.
