New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing him as a “Krantiveer” (revolutionary) whose cinematic contributions attacked societal ills. The Prime Minister’s remarks came following the news of the actor’s demise.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Prime Minister Modi, in a series of posts on X, expressed his condolences, stating that Patekar possessed an intensity, individuality, and unmistakable presence that brought remarkable versatility and creativity to every role. He noted that the actor gave audiences characters that would be remembered for generations.
Modi further highlighted Patekar’s admired frank and forthright views, commending his willingness to express his beliefs without hesitation. The Prime Minister acknowledged Patekar’s immense contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema, emphasizing that his passing leaves a deep void and extending condolences to his family, friends, and admirers.
While inaugurating the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 in the national capital, Prime Minister Modi again paid homage to the actor. He remarked that renowned actor Nana Patekar was no longer among them, remembering him as a versatile artist who won people’s hearts through various characters.
The Prime Minister reflected on Patekar’s life, stating it was dedicated to the glory of the tricolour and that he was never confined by limitations, likening his presence in cinema to a bird flying freely. Modi reiterated that through his films, Patekar strongly challenged the prevalent evils within society, functioning as a revolutionary who worked against social maladies.
Prime Minister Modi observed that Patekar’s powerful dialogues and his impactful silences were equally significant. He also noted the actor’s consistent stance in favour of taking strong action against anti-national elements. The Prime Minister concluded his tributes by paying respects to Patekar’s family, friends, and admirers.
Nana Patekar, celebrated for his acting prowess and distinctive on-screen persona, passed away at his residence in Goa in the early hours of Thursday. His career spanned several decades, marked by critically acclaimed performances in numerous films across different languages.
