The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is initiating a comprehensive, early statewide mobilisation effort in Uttar Pradesh in preparation for the 2027 Assembly elections. The campaign, designed to strengthen the party’s presence across the state, will be spearheaded by prominent national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and party president Nitin Nabin.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the strategy, finalised during a recent State Working Committee meeting, places a significant emphasis on constituencies and districts where the BJP experienced underperformance in the 2022 Assembly and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party intends to focus its resources and organisational efforts on these identified weak pockets before addressing seats where its electoral standing is already strong.
Prime Minister Modi is slated to conduct rallies across all 18 administrative divisions of Uttar Pradesh, aiming to connect with a broad base of voters. Concurrently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president Nitin Nabin will concentrate their activities on the party’s 98 organisational districts, working to bolster grassroots support. This intensive campaign drive is expected to gain momentum after November 20, with directives issued to district and Assembly-level functionaries to compile detailed lists and pinpoint areas requiring enhanced organisational attention and intervention.
In parallel with the leadership-driven initiatives, the BJP has commenced a significant strengthening of its booth-level machinery. The party has successfully completed the verification process for its 1,918 mandals and approximately 1.77 lakh booths across the state. The current focus is on fostering greater engagement and interaction between booth-level party workers and the electorate, ensuring a robust connection at the micro-level.
The strategic decision to prioritise weaker segments of the electorate directly reflects the BJP’s assessment of the electoral challenges it faced in both the 2022 Assembly polls and the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Samajwadi Party, in particular, demonstrated a stronger performance in numerous constituencies in 2024, prompting the BJP to re-evaluate and refocus its efforts on areas where its historical electoral advantage has diminished. This approach aims to consolidate existing support and recover ground lost in key districts.
The upcoming campaign is also expected to address critical political narratives, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Furthermore, the party aims to proactively engage with and assuage concerns that have surfaced among segments of its traditional support base during recent Legislative Council elections, ensuring the cohesion of its core voter demographic.
This extensive organisational exercise is anticipated to hold significance extending beyond the immediate objective of the 2027 Assembly elections. The BJP has explicitly linked the prospect of forming a government for a third consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh to its broader strategic goals for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The party’s decision to commence its recovery efforts at the booth level in areas where it has previously lost ground indicates a deliberate strategy to meticulously map its electoral vulnerabilities well in advance of the next national parliamentary contest.
Adding a significant policy dimension to the upcoming electoral landscape, Amit Shah has announced that a BJP government in Uttar Pradesh would prioritise the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. This pledge is poised to serve as a key policy plank for the party’s campaign in 2027, offering a distinct ideological proposition to the voters of the state.
