11KV Electricity supply lines becomes dangerous threat for villagers in Thathri

Villagers demand shiffting of 11KV supply line

Electricity is the basic need of a household but when it become a threat for lives, the govt act only after people lost their precious lives. Here is the story of Upper Thathri village in Thathri tehsil (Doda district). The electricity lines can be seen close the the houses. These are 11KV double electricity supply for Drabshalla and Kahara pass through this village. While Drabshalla is located on the northeast of Thathri town but these supply lines started from receiving station at Grid Station Thathri towards southeast for a one kilometre passing through Upper Thathri and splits for Drabshalla and Kahara near Lower Thathri. Residents of Upper Thathri had reported several incidents of short circuit due to these electric supply lines.

Speaking to Chenab Times correspondent, a local resident Mohd Saleem said,

I have requested this issue since 10 years. There are lot of paper works but no work seems to be at ground level. I have submitted a request for shiffting this electricity supply line to former Cheif Minister Omar Abdullah when he was in power, then I submitted a application to Mehbooba Mufti government too but still the electricity lines are at same place, close to my house, close to 7-8 house.

In the last week, a short circuit due to these supply lines damages our electronics. We and many others suffered a huge loss due to these supply lines,” he added.

Another resident, Abdul Majid Butt said,

We have requested many times to the concerned department and the grievance cell but the matter bypassed always. Sometimes they says that they have insufficient funds and sometimes other reasons. I think the department will shift this line only when someone dies due to electric shock by these supply lines.

The residents shown us some applications submitted in past several years to Jammu and Kashmir Government and JK Grievance cells shows that concerned department have no interest in precious lives—(CT)
