Jammu and Kashmir: Rajouri Authorities Seize 20 Vehicles, Impose Rs 1 Lakh Fine in Road Safety Drive

SRINAGAR: Authorities in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, have intensified efforts to bolster road safety, particularly concerning school transportation. A recent enforcement drive led to the seizure of 20 vehicles and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 1 lakh.

The Chenab Times has learned that the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) in Rajouri spearheaded a comprehensive operation on Wednesday, focusing on ensuring strict compliance with road safety regulations. The drive placed a significant emphasis on the safety protocols for school-going children.

During the intensive enforcement action, officials impounded a total of 20 vehicles. Among these, six private vehicles were found to be illegally engaged in transporting school children, a clear violation of the established safety mandates for such services. The operation identified multiple instances of non-compliance with traffic laws.

In addition to vehicle seizures, the enforcement team issued 11 formal challans (notices of violation) to offenders for various infractions. These actions resulted in the collection of Rs 1 lakh in fines from individuals and entities found to be in breach of road safety and traffic regulations. Furthermore, the Motor Vehicles Department has recommended the suspension of four driving licenses due to the severity of the violations recorded.

The Motor Vehicles Department of the region has reiterated its unwavering commitment to enhancing road safety for all citizens. Officials urged vehicle owners and operators to diligently adhere to all traffic regulations and safety standards. The department indicated that such rigorous enforcement drives are planned to continue systematically across the district, aiming to foster a safer environment for all road users, with a particular focus on protecting vulnerable passengers like students.

The crackdown underscores the administration’s resolve to address persistent issues related to vehicular safety and compliance with transport laws. By targeting illegal transportation of students and other traffic rule violations, authorities aim to prevent potential accidents and ensure a secure commuting experience for the public.
