A 28-year-old woman remains in critical condition following a brutal stabbing attack while she was jogging along the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn, New York. The New York Police Department (NYPD) is actively seeking information from the public to identify the assailant and understand the circumstances surrounding the violent incident.
The attack occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, as the victim was running along the paved waterfront path in the Bath Beach neighborhood. According to police, she sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck. Emergency medical services transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she is currently admitted in critical condition.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the victim, identified as Katie Suarez by some reports, had been training for the upcoming New York City Marathon. Her parents reportedly spoke with her by phone around the time of the incident, and she indicated she was close by. However, she failed to meet them as planned, prompting concern and a subsequent search where she was discovered injured.
The NYPD has released a photograph of the victim and is appealing to anyone who may have seen her or anything suspicious between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. on the evening of the attack. Investigators are particularly interested in anyone who was in the vicinity of the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway, between Bay 8th Street and Bay 17th Street.
The Shore Parkway Greenway is a popular recreational area known for its views of Gravesend Bay, Staten Island, and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. However, the incident has raised safety concerns among local residents and the running community. New York State Senator Steve Chan has called for improved lighting along the path to enhance safety for users.
The New York Road Runners (NYRR), the organization that hosts the New York City Marathon, expressed their deep sympathy for the victim and her family. A spokesperson stated, “We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community.” The NYRR confirmed that the victim had participated in their races previously.
As of Sunday, police had not identified any suspects or released a motive for the attack. The investigation is ongoing, and the NYPD urges anyone with information to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips via the department’s website or social media platforms.
