One person has died and six others have been injured following a shooting incident at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California. The violence erupted on Friday evening, hours before the start of Halloween celebrations.
According to Fairfield police, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Solano Town Center shortly before 8:30 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, they discovered seven victims with gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining six were transported to local hospitals. At least three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet identified a suspect or suspects. Police stated that the crime scene is still active and the investigation is ongoing. No details have been released regarding whether the victims or the perpetrator were store employees or customers.
The incident occurred as many families were shopping for last-minute Halloween supplies. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with people running and screaming from the store. Some who were in the parking lot reported seeing a large number of people fleeing the shopping center.
Fairfield is located approximately 47 miles northeast of San Francisco. The Solano Town Center is a regional shopping mall that houses numerous retail stores, including the Spirit Halloween location where the shooting took place.
Officials have confirmed that no areas outside the immediate vicinity of the Solano Town Center mall were placed on lockdown. The investigation is expected to continue through the night as law enforcement works to gather evidence and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
The shooting is not believed to be connected to any other incidents, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
